American Academy of Pediatrics - Car Seat Installation

If you have a young child you have a car seat.  But are you sure it's installed properly?  Studies show that more than 90% of car seats are installed improperly, which could lead to serious injury to your child if you were ever in an accident.  This website offers helpful tips to ensure that your child is riding safely and securely!

Find a Car Seat Checkup Event Near You

Once you read the link to the American Academy of Pediatrics you'll want to have your car seats inspected for proper installation.  This website provides a helpful link to the car seat checkup events in your area.

Safe Kids - Child Passenger Safety

Another link about child passenger safety?  You bet.  Car accidents are the leading cause of death for children ages 3 - 14 in the U.S.  This is one of those times when a little knowledge can go a long way in protecting your children.  This website makes it easy to see how to keep your children - no matter how old - riding safely and in style.

Children and Head Injuries

Bumps on the head.  Concussions.  Blows to the head.  Whatever you call it, any type of injury to the head could be potentially serious for your child, even if it seems like a minor injury and there are no visible signs of injury.  Brain injuries are the leading cause of death and disability for children (this includes head injuries caused by car accidents).  Read up on how to prevent head injuries, how to spot them, and what to do about them.

National Center for Missing and Exploited Children

The National Center has great information about how to keep your kids safe from abuse or kidnapping.  It has critical tips on how to talk with your children about safety in a way that is most effective and easiest for them to grasp.  Check out their FAQ: Child Safety, which shatters a lot of myths about "stranger danger."

Orange United Methodist Church

This is my church.  It continually strives to have an active and grace-full presence in our community and reminds me of the myriad ways that I can give back.  It will often be the recipient of Go Scooter Go's monthly Give Back! donation.

Brain & Spinal Injury Trust Fund Commission

As a former employee of the Commission this agency and its mission are close to my heart.  It is a model for how state agencies can provide services to people in a dignified and accessible way without getting bogged down in bureaucracy.
